Is Roman Polanski A Pedophile?
Let’s keep in mind that Roman Polanski gave a 13-year-old girl a Quaalude and champagne, then raped her, before we start discussing whether the victim looked older than her 13 years, or that she now says she’d rather not see him prosecuted because she can’t stand the media attention. Before we discuss how awesome his movies are or what the now-deceased judge did wrong at his trial, let’s take a moment to recall that according to the victim’s grand jury testimony, Roman Polanski instructed her to get into a jacuzzi naked, refused to take her home when she begged to go, began kissing her even though she said no and asked him to stop; performed cunnilingus on her as she said no and asked him to stop; put his penis in her vagina as she said no and asked him to stop; asked if he could penetrate her anally, to which she replied, “No,” then went ahead and did it anyway, until he had an orgasm.
Polanski’s victim, Samantha Geimer, spoke out in a 2003 Good Morning America interview. Watch it here:
If you can’t understand why people are jumping at the chance to defend this guy, well neither can I. Except for maybe Woody Allen whose support mirrors his own highly publicized indecency with young girls, notably the one who happened to be his adopted daughter turned wife. Whoopi Goldberg’s proclamations of support are shocking, to say the least.
I know it wasn’t rape-rape. It was something else but I don’t believe it was rape-rape. He went to jail and and when they let him out he was like ‘You know what, this guy’s going to give me a hundred years in jail I’m not staying,’ so that’s why he left.
Really, Whoopi? I have no words for the level of ignorance coming from someone who played a very young rape/molestation victim in none of than The Color Purple. I have one question for her, what 13 year-old do you know that would consent to anal sex of all things?
That young girl is now a married woman with children of her own. She has since forgiven Polanski and settled with him financially in a civil suit. She went as far as filing a petition earlier this year asking that the case be dropped so she can live her life in peace. Unfortunately for her, and fortunate for the rest of society, justice is not victim-centered. Therein lies its power. Roman Polanski suffered a great deal in his life, yes, but fleeing justice exacerbated his problems and they didn’t go away because there is no statute of limitations on rape. He should face the jury and answer to the charges that he already admitted to committing. Pleading guilty means you’re convicted.
Rape tears into the moral fabric of society. It negates our values and creates a world in which we do not want and cannot afford to live in. He should be prosecuted because an injury to one 13 year old little girl is really an injury to all, especially those who remain silent precisely because of people like him and their supporters. Raping Samantha Geimer and then fleeing justice using whatever lame duck excuse means she was raped not once, but twice. Bringing Polanski to justice means we recognize his humanity as well as our own. In the end, human beings are endowed with conscience thought and the ability to make choices that we all must be held accountable for at some point.
To answer my own question of whether or not Roman Polanski is a pedophile. All roads point to, yes.
