Lawrence Taylor Accused Of Rape
Lawrence Taylor, Pro Football Hall of Famer, and arguably one of the greatest defensive linebackers in the NFL was arrested and accused of raping a 15-year-old girl at a hotel in Motebello, N.Y., according to police reports.
Taylor, who has a history of drug abuse and runs-in with the law, is being charged with third-degree rape, which involves having intercourse with a minor, the Journal News reported on its website. Ramapo police said Taylor has yet to be formally charged.
Ramapo authorities told the Journal News that the alleged victim was also beaten at the hotel and treated at a hospital.”She was a runaway since March and there was a pimp involved,” Ramapo supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence told the newspaper. “She got punched in the face. We’re not sure who did it.”
A quick, fierce and athletic linebacker who redefined his position, Taylor anchored the Giants’ defense and led New York to Super Bowls titles in 1987 and 1991. He was selected to the NFL’s 75th Anniversary All-Time Team.
A 10-time Pro Bowler, he was the NFL Most Valuable Player in 1986 and the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1981, 1982 and 1986. He recorded 132.5 sacks, which doesn’t included the 9.5 sacks in 1981 when the statistic wasn’t official.Read the rest at ESPN.com.
As it stands, L.T. has not been formally charged because the investigation is still on going. Charges are expected to be upgraded pending the outcome of the investigation into who physically assaulted the teenage girl.
There are some guys that wind up in the news that never surprise me and Lawrence Taylor is one of them. It could be that his time in the limelight post-football has been filled with of run-ins with the law which he had effectively been able to downplay for some time. This, due to the fact that his time in the limelight during the highest points in his career were chocked full of hard-hitting, game changing run-ins on the field that sealed his legend among the football greats. It also garnered him an enormous measure of respect within the sports community especially, despite his legal issues.
His destructive bahavior has once again landed him in the hot seat. Taylor has been called a lot of names in his day, but to be accused of rape has got to be the lowest point in L.T’s action packed life thus far.
His third wife, Lynette Taylor, is standing by her man. According to TMZ, Lynette claims that the timing of the arrest is suspicious because it came just days after LT was featured on an A&E documentary called “Fame and Recovery” which she believes “made him out to be a monster.”
Whatever the charge and subsequent case, LT has some serious explaining to do.
Plenty of guys can meet a woman, buy her a few drinks, have a decent conversation, make moves on the dance floor, then go home and have consensual sex. I know I’m not that old-school, but paying for sex is one thing, paying for consensual sex with a teenager is another thing altogether. In essence, L.T. paid to have statutory sex, if the reports are true. This along with his famed on-field physical prowess will follow him for the rest of his life.
Hopefully, throughout all of his troubles over the years, he’s at least had the wherewithal to keep a lawyer on retainer.
